Gars am Kamp is worth visiting, a small town in the scenic Waldviertel region in Lower Austria and lies about an hour northwest of Vienna. The market town is historically significant, since it long served as Austria’s “capital” during the Middle Ages. These days, Gars presents itself in a bright new look – and the la pura resort is one of the reasons for this.r.

Enjoying the fresh air on long walks, eating, drinking, swimming and relaxing in the great outdoors. During the warmer months of the year, it is not just nature that tempts people to go outside, but cultural events as well: All across Austria, summer stages present a wide range of programmes – and the upper Kamptal valley offers attractive outdoor venues.
The unique Burg Gars, a castle that served as the first seat of government of the Babenberg dynasty and is almost 1,000 years old, features opera performances during the summer. In this tranquil setting, the unique acoustics supported by the thick castle wall invite audiences to enjoy the opera.
In the Rosenburg castle, seven kilometres away, the summer night comedy awaits audiences with its unique round stage, which has become the trademark for cultural events in the region. Audiences in every row have a wonderful view of the performers on stage.
Outings with a unique landscape backdrop
There is a wide and varied range of sports activities on offer. Four mountain bike trails make for an exciting exploration of the region surrounding Gars am Kamp. Spanning more than 100 kilometres, the trails cover a variety of different terrains in an enchanting landscape. The impressive natural paradise of the Kamptal valley can also be easily explored with a kayak. The Naturpark Kamptal is a UNESCO Geopark and is distinguished by numerous vineyards and floodplain areas that can be discovered on hiking trails.
From pearls to amethysts to wine – there is a great range of things to see!
The mother-of-pearl turnery in Felling has been delighting visitors and customers with a variety of jewellery for over 100 years. Visitors can get a look at the manufacturing process up close. The precious pieces can then be purchased in the shop.
Precious stones and a number of energy spots – that’s Amethyst Welt in Maissau. It offers an extraordinary experience and the world’s largest exposed amethyst vein. The gardens invite guests to rest and restore their energy, energy re-charging point, the snack garden or the chakra path.
Not far from here is the Weinwelt Loisium in Langenlois, a true architectural eye-catcher. Wine enthusiasts can enjoy the 900-year-old wine cellar, the wine shop and a tasting room.
